AWARDS FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
The Northfield Board of Education, recognizing its responsibility to foster equal educational opportunity for the students of Northfield, hereby adopts the following guidelines for all academic and extra-curricular awards to be presented to any students in the system.
A. Outside agencies and/or organizations wishing to present awards may establish criteria for selection of recipient, but these criteria may not discriminate as to sex, race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin or social or economic status;
B. These criteria must be in writing and approved by the superintendent before presentation of the award;
C. No information, either academic or personal shall be released from the student’s record for the purpose of selecting a scholarship or prize winner without the permission of the student who is 18, or the parents/guardians of a student who is younger, in accordance with the board’s policy on student records;
D. Any award that has not been BOE approved, may be, at the discretion of the superintendent, recognized via an insert in the Awards Assembly program. The award must be presented in writing to the superintendent with the criteria detailed.
Delegation of Responsibility
The Superintendent of Schools shall be responsible for implementing this policy
