CHARGES FOR REPRODUCING PUBLIC DOCUMENTS
Reference, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1, states that the Legislature finds and declares it to be the public policy of the State of New Jersey that public records shall be readily accessible for examination by the citizens of this state, with certain exceptions, for the protection of the public interest.
Reference, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-2, states that every citizen of this state, during the regular business hours maintained by the custodian of such records, shall have the right to inspect such records. Every citizen of this state shall have the right, during such regular business hours and under the supervision of a representative of the custodian, to copy such records by hand, and shall also have the right to purchase copies of such records.
Copies of records will be made available upon the payment of such price as established below:
A. $0.05 per page for letter sized pages and smaller;
B. $0.07 per page for legal sized pages and larger;
C. When the actual cost to produce paper copies exceed the $0.05 and $0.07 rates the district may charge the actual cost of duplication;
D. Electronic records (via e-mail and fax), must be provided free of charge;
E. Actual cost must be charged when providing records in another medium (computer disk, CD-ROM, DVD).
The business administrator, Superintendent of Schools, principal, or their respective designees, are hereby directed to assess and collect such fees upon such reproduction and forward these fees to the business office for deposit to the district general accounts.
