CONCEPTS AND ROLES IN INSTRUCTION

 

Instructional activities provided by teaching staff members are a necessary element in the attainment of district and school goals, objectives and standards by pupils. Implementation of the instructional program shall include, but need not be limited to:

 

A. A school environment designed to foster positive feelings by pupils toward self and others;

 

B. Creative use of various instructional methods, materials and equipment;

 

C. Opportunities for pupils to participate in the study of individual school and community problems;

 

D. Active involvement of pupils in directed and self-selected activities;

 

E. School and classroom organization and pupil assignment based upon individual pupil needs;

 

F. Effective use of personnel, resources and facilities of the school and community;

 

G. An emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge and the interrelatedness of learning.

 

Responsibility

 

A. To help one to do a good teaching job, the making of plans is expected of every teacher at least 24 hours in advance. Plans will be inspected weekly and must meet the requirements laid down by the principal;

 

B. Teachers shall make thorough preparation for all daily lessons and shall prepare plans reflecting such preparation.

 

Regulations

 

Guidelines for the implementation of this policy shall include:

 

A. Lesson plans shall include information pertinent to the effective implementation of a lesson;

 

B. While teachers are required to be thoroughly prepared for each daily lesson, plans may be prepared for each lesson or on a long-term basis, whichever is appropriate;

 

C. Lesson plans shall be reviewed on a regular basis by appropriate administrative personnel;

 

D. Teachers are to provide adequate directions for substitutes, the purpose of which shall be to continue, if possible, the ongoing program or, if more appropriate, a meaningful educational alternative that relates to the objectives.
